Yorkshire Water has paid out £2,000 in compensation for a cyclist after he made a cycle accident jury claim against them when he was thrown off his bike after hitting a pothole.
Fifty two year old consulting engineer, Peter Lodge, was returning home from work on his bicycle when he was catapulted off it after his front wheel went down a pothole that surrounded a Yorkshire water valve cap.
Mr Lodge was severely shaken following the accident and had numerous scrapes, it was fount that the pothole surrounded a water valve that was owned by Yorkshire Water and therefore was Yorkshire Waters responsibility to fill in.
It has been reported that after taking legal advice from the UK’s national cyclists organisation, Mr Lodge decided to pursue a cycle injury accident claim, which was successful and he was awarded around £2,000 in compensation for his injuries.
Shortly after Mr Lodge’s accident the pothole was repaired, and after speaking to the Yorkshire Post he urged other cyclists to report any potentially dangerous potholes.
